This is a Union Pacific Streamliner. One of the finer looking trains even compared to today. Designed to carry passengers in style and class, this aerodynamic design helped increase its speed.
After automobiles really took over, people started to take vacations with them. The train industry didn't like that, it was cutting into their profits, so they designed this train. Rounded with art deco features, some of them looked like a big pill. Painted in bright colors, to attract the eye better (all the other engines were black), they were able to attract people once again. They wanted to show just how much easier and faster it was to travel by rail.
