Description
These rotary blades are part of a piece of equipment that fits on the front of a locomotive. Its purpose is to act as a snow shovel for the train. The blades spin as they cut through the snow drifts and throw the snow to the sides of the railroad tracks. These historical snow cutting blades have been around since 1869. Most of them can only be found in museums today. This one was found at the railway museum in Golden, Colorado.
