Artist's Description
The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau Invitational Big Wave Surfing Contest was held at Waimea Bay December 8 2009. The 25th anniversary of what is widely considered the world's most prestigious big wave contest was held in 30 - 50 ft. surf before a crowd estimated up to 30,000. A live webcast got more than a million more viewers. This shot was taken about 30 minutes before the contest begun.
About Kevin Smith
The love of art started early in life. First success at art shows where both paintings and photography have won awards. Most meaningful award to date was bestowed by a visiting juror the celebrated impressionist plein air painter Gaston De Vel. However, as with all artists our most cherished honor is the acceptance of our art into the hearts and homes of our patrons. Why Art? "Without Art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable." - George Bernard Shaw http://fineartamerica.com/featured/kalalau-valley-rainbow-kevin-smith.html
