Description
Transit of Venus in 1761. 19th-century illustrations of the 1761 transit of Venus across the Sun, and of observations being made of solar projections of the transit. Transits by Venus across the Sun are rare, occurring in the modern era in 1631, 1639, 1761, 1769, 1874, 1882, 2004, and 2012. In 1761, numerous expeditions were made for the first time to observe the transit at different locations worldwide. The page is from 'Transitus Veneris per discum Solis Anni 1761' by Hungarian astronomer Maximilian Hell (1720-1792), director of the Imperial Observatory in Vienna. The transit was observed from here on 6 June 1761.
