Description
Hoar frost. View across a river valley, showing trees covered in hoar frost. This type of frost forms when air with a dew point below freezing point is cooled by radiative heat loss - for example on a clear night in winter. As the air becomes saturated below its dew point, the water vapour will sublimate forming tiny interlocking ice crystals on any cold surface. Photographed in Northumberland, UK.
