Description
Trummelbach Falls, in Lauterbrunnen, central Switzerland. These falls are part of a system that drains around 24 square kilometres from the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks in the Alps. In only five kilometres of horizontal distance, the catchment area descends 3300 metres, making it one of the steepest in the world. The streams carve through Jurassic limestones in the Wildhorn Nappe which were compressed and folded during the orogeny (mountain growing) of the Alps.
