These amazing Tusheti men of the Caucasus still rake, stack, and remove hay by hand and ox cart. Andrew the Apostle and Matthias brought the Salvation of Jesus with the Holy Spirit showing signs and wonder to these people in the 1st century Apostolic Church movement into all ends of their known earth. They are true indigenous "mountain men/women. They use swing blades also known as scythes- and wide handmade wooden rakes. They are a very hospitable fun people to visit with. Their ancestors were known as Scythians and were also masters of the bow, and were horse masters. I enjoyed being in the rare high Caucasus Mountain region of Tusheti; at the end of one of the 10 most dangerous roads in the world, as the BBC labels them. Can we spell white knuckles coming down? ARTIST BIO Anastasia Ealy has been a New Mexico artist since 1984. She was raised with the love of the Rocky Mountain west, ranching, horses, farm animals, gardening and mountains. Many summer times were spent on the Nebraska family ranch. Her mother was a Creole from New Orleans, Louisiana, of original French and Portuguese,Spanish,Sephardi-Jew, early 1700's Colonial ancestry. This Spanish heritage, and having lived and painted in Calpe, Spain during the 1970's also gives Anastasia a strong affinity to Northern New Mexico.Colonial heritage, and love for it people and landscapes.
