Description
Just because I lived a nearly idyllic existence as a kid, doesn't mean that I didn't realize how lucky I was. From a very young age I'd been aware of the Vietnam war, and though I never saw the t.v. pictures that other kids did on the news every night (my family's log cabin in the Wyoming foothills had no electricity or other modern conveniences), I sensed the horror of war and was frightened for the unfortunate people all over the world who were its victims. I knew the violence that black people faced, and their heroism as they worked for human rights. The assassinations, riots, conflicts and confusions of the 1960s did not pass our family by. I understood poverty first hand as I grew older -- I always felt so rich in experience and joy that it came as a shock to realize that people thought of us as poor. And, I think, every child understands loneliness and sadness no matter how well loved and cared for. I also understood the solace of natural beauty, so to the pencil sketch (done around age 10, with caption) I added the flowers, stars and butterflies of hope.

A very touching piece which shows the sweetness of your heart, even from a very young age. The world needs more of people like you, Dawn. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This painting proove the fact that you were a very sensitive and brilliant child, Dawn. The symbolism involved in this work is outstanding for a 10 years old girl. ______ Ana

Dawn, I had always sensed that you had a sympathetic consciousness of other's misfortune from an early age; I bet you would like to alleviate one's suffering too. You became appreciative of your natural surroundings; such environment, conditions, shape that unique feeling of "joy and richness in experience" that you have. Great painting, Dawn! It says it all!

Dawn, you have captured in this image the depth of pain and suffering by so many in the world. Beautiful composition and content. f/v
