Description
A lone jacaranda tree in full bloom dominates the ranch landscape of a beautiful area in Maui's upcountry region called Ulupalakua in this digital painting. These majestic trees grow in abundance at this elevation on the island of Maui from Haiku all the way to Ulupalakua. Many can be seen along the Kula Highway (Hwy 37). I used to go horseback riding and picnic up in this area frequently when I lived on Maui. This is only one of the many beautiful sights that can be seen along this special stretch of road. This pasture that inspired this piece is located not too far beyond the old Fong General Store and the Thompson Ranch.

Fabulous, Jane! I miss them, too! But this is a beautiful smile-maker! Mahalo!

What a divine capture! The tree is so beautiful and colorful and weird and looks like it does not belong in that landscape at all but there it is! Fascinating rarity of nature and a very nice description to go along with!
J Marielle replied:
Thank you so much, Chance. These trees would pop up out of nowhere and just be so gorgeous when they were in bloom. I miss them so much. Nothing like these grow in the desert regions, so far as I know. The ground is really rocky there with lava, and they would even grow out of the old lava flow fields where the grass had started to return. Thanks so much again!!! :)

Upcountry splendor.....
J Marielle replied:
I miss the old Upcountry Maui so much. So many of the jacaranda trees were destroyed around Pukalani when they did the bypass and other road projects. At least there are still an abundance of them along Kula Highway and Rice Park. That is the area that inspired this. Mahalo nui loa!!!

Love this solitary tree along the fence line! Beautiful work, Jane! L/f
J Marielle replied:
Thank you so much, Amy. That's how they would often dot the landscape along the upcountry roads on Maui -- they are so beautiful. :)
