This corridor with vaulted ceilings and lights is outside the main entrance to Union Station, the main transportation hub of Washington, DC. It is the city's center for subway and all rail traffic, including Amtrak train service up the busy "eastern corridor" with stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston. The station, which was built in 1907 and is to the immediate north side of the United States Capitol, was its busiest during World War II when an average of 200,000 passengers a day traveled through its vast halls and corridors. It is still one of the busiest, and largest, train stations in America.

I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
