Paint handling becomes more important as I explore abstract composition, evolving with the passage of time. Most of the conceptual, non objective work I do is paint and think,paint and compare,paint and scrape,etc. I imagine it's a criticism that I don't have a finished idea in mind, so I am less able to determine a stopping point

David Zimmerman was born in Washington, D.C.He began his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964. He continued on in his training with Bill Woodward at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. In order to receive a bacalaureate degree he transferred to George Washington University, where he studied Drawing and Printmaking with Frank Wright. He was granted a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 1970.After a brief period of training with Phillip Pearlstein in Massachusetts, he returned to George Washington University where he again studied with William Woodward and Arthur Hall Smith.
