Description
I was looking for an outing to get me out of my usual environment and found that there was a wildlife refuge a little more than an hour away. The William L Finley wildlife refuge provides a wintering environment for the dusky Canadian geese. There are farms in the area, similar to Sauvie Island, but the area ranges from marshland to fields, to hills with white oak and maples. Many of the trails in the Winter are closed to protect the wintering birds, although there are a few that are open year round. This was seen on the Woodpecker Trail, which is very lovely. You walk through some woods and can hear woodpeckers, as well as other varieties of birds flitting around in the undergrowth and in the branches of the tree.
This portion of a wood fence struck me as funny - a remnant from a time when the land might have been part of a farm - not keeping anything in or out, but making for a nice photograph.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
