Description
A print of an oil painting of the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor in the year 1812. The Massachusetts state capitol sits on the top of the hill, and Faneuil Hall by the waterfront.
The USS Constitution was launched in 1797 and was one of the original six frigates authorized by congress. It became famed for her service in the War of 1812 defeating five of Great Britain's warships and capturing many merchant ships. Saved from scrapping, she continues today as a fully commissioned US Navy ship berthed in Boston Harbor. In the background of the painting is Faneuil Hall, it was the site of many speeches by such patriots as Samuel Adams encouraging American Independence from Great Britain. Today it serves as a marketplace now several blocks from waterfront.
