VIOLET. The African Violet, native to the Eastern African country Tanzania, is a household plant which can also be grown outdoors. Sensitive to weather changes, cold water can cause the leaves to go into shock and discolor. Culturally, African Violets have long been associated with mothers and motherhood and have long been a traditional gift during Mother's Day. They're also highly prized for Valentine's Day and Easter.
