I really like this. Degas is one of my favorite artists, and I love the dancer. You have truly captured a young woman who loves this work.

Positively beautiful: daughter and the painting.

Marvellous!!!

Patrick, so much wonderful work here but this was the one that stopped me in my tracks. I love it. I've read all the comments from your fans and can only add my praise as well. You sure did not cop out on the painting behind the girl. It's got me pulled into it as well. I also stood as a highschool kid (in the forties) in front of the little ballerina with her faded, tatered too-too and gazed into the long ago dance student's presence. You've captured it all. Thanks for the kind and welcoming words as I just signed into FAA. - - - - GEORGE

Patrick, I really appreciate your very nice comments and praise for my drawing of "Stephen", my "Beatrix" sculpture and my "Light Study" painting. Coming from someone who creates such exceptional work as you, this really means a lot. I admire many of your pieces, but "Visit to the Museum" is my favorite - it is not only very beautifully executed but it is also a captivating, multi-layered tribute to Degas whose work I, as you, like very much! Very nice, thanks.

this is a lovely..just love the look on the girl's face..like your style and body of work..

Aloha Patrick! This is a painting that one can get lost in. Beautiful ...

You are a Master painter. I have goosebumps looking at this. In my younger years I traveled to museums throughout Europe, it brings back memories. I am humble in your presence. Debra

Really nice to look at! Wonderful image idea! And lots of painting skills!

This artist!

Amazing painting. I love the idea, the composition, and the craftsmanship. This painting should be hanging on the wall alongside Degas' Ballerina. Patrick, you are a master with a brush, pencil, piece of pastel or whatever you decide on working with. Bravo!

Many years ago, my uncle Thomas (Tom) Phillip Hufford asked me to come up with a word the opposite of predator. Amitor is that word. Ami: Fr. friend, Amigo: Sp. friend, Amity: Eng. harmony, Ami: Formosa, Taiwan. Giraffe: non predatory animal unless young attacked. Butterflies: live, love, laugh, hope. Survive, thrive and inspire others. Pen Sherwood offered to do this Amtor artwork for free sharing the copyright with me for my Amitor concept. Amitor Tom would be so proud. Diana Hays Kisselburg

Artist's Description

On a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York with my then fourteen-year-old daughter, Hilary, she and I walked into the room in which Degas' bronze, 'The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer,' was on display, and Hilary walked up to it, assumed the fourth position and I did a quick thumbnail sketch of them, together. A year later, I found that thumbnail sketch in my travel journal, dug up a photo of the wax original and created the oil pastel I call, 'Visit to a Museum.' This is an oil pastel painting and Prismacolor pencil drawing. To blend the color evenly, I mask the areas around selected color-fields with FriskFilm, cutting along the graphite sketch lines on the museum board with an x-acto blade, then I apply oil pastels and blend with a rag soaked in mineral spirits, layer broad strokes of oil pastel using a light touch, push the pigment around with my fingertips, layer more color on top with pencil, then draw the details in with Prismacolors that define the finished piece.

About Patrick Anthony Pierson

Patrick Pierson: A TABLEAU OF DREAMS, NO LIMITS Born Patrijk Anton-Piers in 1953 on the outskirts of Utrecht in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the artist changed his name to Patrick Pierson in 1961 when he and his family immigrated to America. Initially represented and published by the Meisner Gallery in New York City, Patrick eventually settled in Palm Beach, Florida and established Fyshwerks Studio Gallery - a fine art studio, smithy, display gallery and publishing house that would become the birthplace for the creatures that were destined to inhabit the realm of Planet Zootopia.
