This is one of two paintings by my friend Nadia's VooDoo Lily. Being a self-taiught painter, I took a chance on an interesting subject and created two with different coloroed backgrounds.

beautiful work of Art f/v

Mary, think my comment was unclear due to tiredness, saw one on tv once so I knew it was real, - what I meant to say, but didn't, was that people think we invented surrealism, but like most things, mother nature got there first. This is a prime example. Shame about the smell. While I'm here I'll add another vote to celebrate natural surrealism.
Mary Deal replied:
Richard, you are so right about Mother Nature. She has some of the most surreal creations ever and we are only emulating her. Thank you for your v too.

beautiful work! v
Mary Deal replied:
Thanks, Joan.

This is great - a surreal painting from a faithful representation of a plant!! But I suppose that's VooDoo for you... beautifully strange. V&F for PIF in Self Taught. (Clearly you're an excellent teacher, Mary!)
Mary Deal replied:
This is a real plant, Richard. Painting almost exact image as my friend's photo. She grows them. This lily grows 2.5 to 3 feet tall. However, a cousin of this one grows up to 15 or more feet tall. They all have the same shape. And they all have a very foul odor, but the plant is gorgeous. Thank you so much for the promo.
