Description
Austin Texas' Congress Avenue Bridge is the home to a major colony of Mexican Free-tailed Bats. Every evening, from spring through fall, the citizens of Austin gather on the bridge to watch the spectacle of the bat flight from the bridge. Evening cruises on the lake offer another way to view them. My reference photos for this painting were taken while on a "bat cruise" one April evening.

I used to live in Austin, and I heard about the bats under the Congress Avenue bridge, but I never got around to going there to see them. I've heard it's an amazing sight!
