This is really great, Brian. I have marvelled at the Walking Stick before, but I love your capture here. It seems to illustrate that God has a good imagination. The photo has been selected to be featured on the Weird Natural Oddites Home Page

My friend and I were in a County park the other day. She loves these little guys, but we couldn't see any. The way you have framed this is great. Makes it look like more than just a bug - it's art.

This looks gorgeous printed on wood. It is now hanging on my therapy office wall and is perfect. The color is true to the photo. I love it.

Very pleased with the image, color, printing . My selection of printing onto wood is great for this image. There are a few mildly dark lines which are natural to wood. They show through the image and contribute to the image--glad that none of these was over the face of the horse rider.

I wanted a photo that showed what a beast these things are, and this one really shows it.

Artist's Description

An image of a "Walking Stick" which is an insect that disguises itself as a twig.

Walking Sticks are insects. They have six legs and a chitin exoskeleton. They belong to the Order Orthoptera, which includes not only walking sticks, but also grasshoppers, katydids, crickets, praying mantids, and cockroaches. Walkingsticks belong to the Suborder Phasmatodea, Family Phasmatidea which includes both walkingsticks (which look like sticks) and leaf insects (which look like leaves).

Image taken in Pasadena, Maryland.

About Brian Wallace

Brian Wallace

I'm a retired communications instructor/developer, raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (USA). I have a wide range of interests which include some artistic talent. My eclectic tastes, thirst for variety, and preference for images over words, eventually lead me through the internet to the world of 3D stereo in 2005. Since I've been with Fine Art America, I've focused primarily on regular photography with a touch of digital manipulation to better compose the images and ideas. Each time I think I've reached a peak, I find myself crossing another threshold that challenges my abilities and talents while paving way to another plateau.
