Thank you for your thoughtful comment and support, Phyllis!

A very lovely shot of this beautiful flower Hanne. Had years ago a pond in my garden with goldfish and I lost them all to the herons. So I gave up same years later (F/L/T/Su/G+)

It sure can get frustrating but I guess it's all part of nature. Thank you for your sweet comment and generous support and promotion, Chris!

Nice flower and lovely shot. Wonderful photography art work and vote 14

Thank you for your thoughtful comment and support, IJT!

Such a lovely flower!

Thank you, Nina!

These are lovely flowers. My Dad used to raise fancy koi and goldfish in a number of ponds on Cape Cod (Massachusetts) but it was a running battle to protect them from predators, especially the ospreys. He ended up running white twine back and forth across the pond (about 2 to 3 feet above the water) to discourage the flying predators, but the raccoons, etc. were impossible to deal with unless the koi were inside. Frogs ate the babies so we were constantly catching and relocating the frogs. I decided I never want fish ponds, but he kept them until he died. Now my brother is carrying on. The water hyacinths multiply nicely and give the babies a place to seek shelter. They also give shade from the sun (which you know, I'm sure) for bigger fish. Good luck with your project - let us know if you find a secret to keeping them safe!!!! V/F

Thank you for your thoughtful comment and support, Carol! Sounds like your dad had a wonderful pond! We strung fish line across our pond in many directions last summer and it did keep away the flying predators but, as you said, it did nothing to deter the racoons, etc. and it did not look too nice.

Beautiful shot! f/v

Thank you for your kind comment and support, Daniel!

Pretty flowers and so glad you still have some goldfish left! Maybe a realistic looking owl figurine would help?? v

Thank you for your kind comment and suggestion, Donna!

What a beautiful pond. I look forward every year to the lakes displaying so many water lillies and purple hyacinth..we tried the Koi too. The birds love them and sit by the pond..wonder if a foutain or a scarecrow sort of deterrent would help...

Hey, what a great idea, Sharon!!! Brilliant - sure worth a try! Thanks for the advice and nice comment.

Oh how lovely! Great capture! vtd

Thank you for your generous comment and support, Rosanne!

Wunderschöne Pflanze und tolles Foto gefällt mir sehr gut

Danke Gerturde für den netten Kommentar. Liebe Grüße Hanne

I built a pond about the same size and the only luck i had keeping away the predators what using the netting that fish hatcheries use. I thought it ruin the visual effect, removed it and built large caves for the fish to hide in. That worked well enough, except for the owl and the hawk - they were just too fast :)) v/f

Thanks for the advice and support, Bob! I did make some caves but I know there is room for improvement there. I'll have to get in there and add some more rocks and caves when it gets warmer. I'd love to see your pond. Hopefully I'll find a shot on your site.

What a beautiful flower and shot!! Love the goldfish and reflections on the water!! v.f

Thank you for your generous comment and support, Debbie!

Beautiful!

Thank you for your kind comment, Cheryl!

So lovely v :)

Thank you for your kind comment and support, Marilyn!

Beautiful capture of your Water Hyacinth, you can buy black netting to put over the pond, and the predators cant' snatch them up.

Thanks for the tip, Susan. We have had black netting over the pond all winter but I don't want it to spoil my view in summer. Maybe we'll just have to let nature take its course. I appreciate your nice comment.

How beautiful!

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Lainie!

Nice and large. Was hoping for an inside zipper pocket. Also some way to close the top, a zipper or latch.

Fierce artwork! Item looked exactly as pictured and nothing was distorted. Very vibrant rich colors! I bought it as a birthday present for someone and they loved it! Only issue is it was so awesome I wanted to keep it for myself!

Although the edges of the design was a bit blurry it was still a really nice tote bag for the beach.

Artist's Description

This is a water hyacinth in our pond. We had 54 large (6" to 8") koi and goldfish a couple of years ago but they have been dinner for various wildlife that live around here. They have been snapped up by hawks, Blue Herons, Raccoons and something that looked like a mink or ferret. At the beginning of last year we had 7 left but they had over 200 babies. By the Fall we only had two large ones left and I haven't seen them this spring: but there seem to be many babies (now about 2 ") that survived the winter. You can see a couple of tiny black babies to the left. Our pond is 20 ft. x 25 ft. x 4 ft. deep with lots of rocks for fish to hide under. Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping away the predators? May be an impossible task since we live by the river and in their natural habitat. Thank you to the hosts of the following groups for featuring my image. I appreciate your kind support and promotion!
