This is a painting from a series of paintings I did about my father, a jazz musician, who died from dementia. Throughout the series, I use the elephant as a symbol for dementia. The only way to get through dementia with a loved one is to look for the moments of silliness that are bound to appear, and allow yourself to grieve when it's necessary. �Color and texture are hugely important in my work. Applied appropriately, they can actually elicit a visceral response from the viewer,� says Emily Page, a California-born, Virginia-raised artist.
