Description
In 1928 Pilot/designer Jimmy Wedell teamed up with financial backer Harry Williams, forming Wedell-Williams Inc., offering charter flights and flying lessons. But wasn't enough so in 1931 they ventured into racing with an airplane designed by Jimmy. Coming in second place in the Thompson Trophy Race was an encouraging development and for the 1932 races the small company had three examples of an updated and improved model ready to go. For the Thompson Trophy, Wedell Williams Racers #92, #44, and #121 came in second, third, and fourth flown by, respectively James Haizlip, Jimmy Wedell himself, and the flamboyant Roscoe Turner. Nobody was going to stop Jimmy Doolittle in the GeeBee that year! However, in the Bendix race, they managed win, place and show!
Yet another Williams Brothers Model Products box art commission for a 1/32 kit, the painting shows Turner in #121 in the colors of the Gilmore Red Lion.
