Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you for your compliment Donna!!

What a fun piece, Joy! another one of the traditions with the boot on the fence posts, particularly in rough country, was to have a boot pointing in when the ranchers were home and away when they weren't home to save the visitor from traveling up a long rough road only to find no one home!

Joy Bradley replied:

Hi Mia, Thank you for your take on the boots.....I love hearing different stories on these, they are so fun!!

Joy this is outstanding!!!!! I'm an east coast gal, so have never seen anything like this ... a fascinating custom!!! Of course, as always with you, a beautiful work of art ... the perfect composition and tones. I have huge respect for anyone who can make watercolor jump through hoops as you do!!!!! LOVE this!!!! f/v of course!!!!

Joy Bradley replied:

Hi Lois, I was an east coast girl until I moved west!! (Love the cowboys!!). Thank you soo much for your enthusiasm and compliments!! Much appreciated! Yahoo!!

I have seen a boot on the fence before & wondered what it meant. Lovely watercolor! F/V

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Hazel....It's fun to hear the different meanings.

This is so very nice, what cowboy wouldn't want this hanging on his wall? Or cowgirl, lol! v/f

Very nice western scene watercolor Joy Congratulations on being chosen as Cards For All Occasions’ Featured Artist! V F & T … Elaine

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Elaine!! I drove by this fence a few weeks ago..it's been at least 28 yrs. since I saw this fence and the boots are still there!!

Very cool! Congrats on your great feature in the Cards for All Occasions Group, Joy!

Joy Bradley replied:

Hi Carol! Thank you!! It certainly was a surprise!!

cool, joy, when i first saw it i questioned the title - a fence usually keeps beings out, a kind of implied "unwelcome" sign. a paradox. but your description puts it in a completely different light. and it's a great image, beautifully rendered

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Jim!! I thought it was strange to have a barbed wire fence that was not so inviting......but all the boots......so inviting. Thank you for reading and your gracious compliment!!

Lovely watercolor, fascinating subject. f/v ;-)

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Cori!!

Love the warm tones and of course the boots...

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Karen!!

This really made me smile and giggle. Wonderful watercolor work, Joy. My bf tells me that this is pretty common in South Dakota, but I've never seen such. Vote and vote in the contest.

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Krisitin..I would love to go back and see if they are still there. Thank you for your compliment!!

Fabulous painting Joy. I love boots and what a way to use the worn out ones.

Joy Bradley replied:

Thank you Karen!! I can see why you would like this one!!

Vivienne Gucwa is a perceptive, talented visionary who sees through the lens of a camera what few in this world can. Her sensitivity is remarkable. The piece of art I purchased is beautiful. I look at it everyday and smile. Having something by her in your home or office is a wise investment and provides great joy. Select her work. Be a patron of the arts and support her. You will never regret it.
