Yellowstone National Park is a U.S.national park located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, although it also extends into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone is the first national park in the world and is reknown for its abundant and varied wildlife as well as its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular features in the park. Yellowstone has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is dominant. During the winter, Yellowstone is one of the coldest places in North America with temperatures dropping as low as -50 degrees. The thermal basins with their heat rising to the surfaces allow small amounts of water to continue to flow throughout the basins despite very large amount of snowfall.
