Description
A foggy day in Maine’s Portsmouth Harbor. The stillness broken only by the flashing sentinel of the old Whaleback light. This tower was built in 1872, replacing an earlier tower built in 1831. The base for the earlier light can be seen in this image in the foreground with a red tint. The light was built along the same lines as the Eddystone Lighthouse in England, and stands 75 feet above the water.
