Major macro creepiness, AJ! I have no clue. L/f

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

It is the mouth of a manatee, Joe! The yellow globular shape is it's tongue as it catches water drops falling from a boat.

I never would have guessed! L/F/V(What In The World Photography contest)

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

Thank you so much, Randi. I am delighted.

Great shot and detail...L

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

Thank you,, Donna.

Very interesting capture. Since this is a macro group, it must something small. A snail?

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

Thank you, Mariola. It is the tongue of a manatee catching drops of water.

Had no clue and totally cheated and read the idea of others. Very fun.

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

I understand. I would have done the same, Julie. Kinda fun, isn't it?

great capture. L/G+

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

Thank you, Constance. It was exciting.

It appears to be an elephant/cactus hybrid.

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

HahaÖThe hairs are pretty nasty looking, aren't they?

Interesting perspective...

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

Thank you, Hari.

Very nice abstract! Well done!

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

Thank you, Mike.

Is it a manatee? Whatever it is, it is surely a face only a mother could love! Great work AnnaJo, I can't wait to find out what it is.

AnnaJo Vahle replied:

You are so clever, Phyllis! She is lying in the water on her back catching water dripping into her mouth. This is an extreme close-up of her mouth.

Artist's Description

What is it? A couple of months ago, I was spending the afternoon with some friends. I had been doing some plein air painting. We were in North Brevard County, Florida. It was a steaming hot afternoon. My friend and I wandered around trying to amuse ourselves. As we chatted amiably, we noticed something pretty interesting. We found some fascinating creatures to watch! Since I am trying to keep this a bit of a mystery, I won't give many more clues. We watched them for a couple hours. We were able to get up right in their faces. We took turns touching these wondrous creatures. They didn't seem to mind, at all. They didn't utter a sound. They had wrinkled skin but were smooth to the touch. Fortunately, I had my camera with me. I took lots and lots of photographs of them from various angles. The lighting was good as the sky was a bit cloudy. I had no good excuse not to get some interesting shots. I intend to post a few more photos at a later date. If no-one has solved...

While living in the Mediterranean, I was especially influenced by the great Renaissance art and the chiaroscuro work of Caravaggio. I began with oils, worked with a wide variety of mediums but now mostly work in acrylic, oils, and photography.
