Description
Wheat leaf surface. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of a leaf from a wheat plant (Triticum sp.). This view includes stomata (oval openings), the gas exchange pores found in the epidermis of plant leaves and stems. Trichomes (bristle-like) are also seen, specialised structures that can be glandular in nature, defend against predators, or help reduce water loss. Wheat grains are used to make flour for products such as breads and pasta.
