It would be very helpful to know what the # s correspond to.
The title comes from the description of the Barred Owl's call - a distinctive and rather loud voice. We have a pair nesting in our woods and hear them calling. This is one of the pair, and it came at dusk and sat in a tree outside our living room window. It watched every move I made as I got my camera and walked up to the side window. I poked the camera around the frame, found the owl in the display and shot a few pictures as well as I could with bad light, taking them through the window, and being in a hurtful position and trying to be still. I hope to get better pics as time goes on and if it visits us again, but for now this is it. All you guys who take such glorious bird pictures, I envy you.
The call of these owls is described as sounding like "Who Cooks For You - Who Cooks For You All".
Barred Owls are native to North America and like to live in wooded areas, although suburbia is seeing more and more of them. They nest in the hollows of trees or in the cr...
I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

Carol, how cute is your Barred Owl? I love him! I would love to see one! I voted, favorited.. and was going to google plus it, but I don't see the button to click? Anyways, great capture!
Carol Senske replied:
You're so nice to do all that! I'm not participating in Google or Pintrest but I appreciate the thought:>). This is the first time we've had a pair so close and raising a family. Exciting!
Melanie Kirdasi
An exciting visitor to have calling ! Even through window glass you got a nice up close photo of this elusive bird.
Carol Senske replied:
It was exciting:>) The crows hated them and constantly harassed them when the poor owls tried to sit still and hunt. The owls prevailed and raised their owlets and moved on - hope they return next year!

No longer the need to be envious of other bird photographers, Carol, as this is one of the most splendid captures of this barred owl I have ever seen, and I have seen many! You are right up there on top with this perfect capture of the owl and its surroundings. I just love owls, and you made my day with this wondrous capture! You got the big, "Elvis" F/V on this wondrous beauty, and congratulations on joining the ranks of great bird photography, as you well deserved the accolades!
Carol Senske replied:
Thank you, Sweet Randy, for being blind to my short-comings:>). The "Elvis" is so appreciated!!!!! My camera is relatively unsophisticated (Sony DSC-H9) but it tries it's best for me and does a Herculean job considering what I ask of it - LOL.
Carol Senske replied:
PS: Thanks so much for the feature!
