The annual Festival of Sail was in San Diego when this maritime photo was taken in August, 2014. San Diego Bay in Southern California was hosting a group of tall ships who were docked at the embarcadero. A tall ship is a large, classic, traditionally-rigged sailing vessel. Popular tall ship rigs include topsail schooners, brigantines, brigs and barques. Tall Ships can be defined more strictly for purposes of a particular race or festival. San Diego Bay is a busy harbor and deep water port located in San Diego County, California near the U.S.to Mexico border, called the Big Bay by the Port Commission. One of the best natural harbors on the North American west coast, it was colonized by Spain beginning in 1769.
