The Discordancy of Wisdom
The arrogance of us when we are young!
We are immortal, death a distant dream.
We know the words to all songs ever sung
And live as though there's nothing to redeem.
Everything clear, no argument we brook,
Our knowledge bound in youthful righteousness,
Impossible that we should have mistook
A lie for truth or belief for a guess.
But Time's sharp scythe swings harsh upon the soul
And slices fine all that we think we know,
Leaving but bits and pieces, nothing whole.
With stealthy hand Doubt muddies tomorrow.
Now clothed in human skin we stand unsure,
What once was obvious is now obscure.
