Pacific Union College, located in the crater of an extinct volcano in Napa, California, is home to a gnarled oak known as "Window Tree." Here a family heirloom desk prism sits on the tree, the red light followed back to the lens of the instamatic I used to snap this old picture in 1978.

My contribution to visual art is "prism photography." By this I mean taking pictures into the direction of the brightly colored light that emanates from prisms. This technique is seen very briefly in some movies, but I have yet to see a collection of stills along this vein, so I hope people see in this something new. My first photos taken this way were at Bee Canyon Park in Southern California, using an Instamatic Camera, circa 1975. Since colored light hitting the eyepiece would usually miss the lens, it was necessary to place the camera to my side where I could see the light hit the camera at just the right place. More recent pictures have been accomplished using a Nikon SLR. Thirty years of chasing prismatic rainbows in this way...
