Acrylic on canvas 48x60" created in 2004.
Review by Nicola Porrill: Winque is a stunning work of art; everything about it seems so effortless and relaxed. Much more white paint has been used in the centre of the piece than anywhere else, meaning that it looks as if it is positively glowing.
Although yellow is the colour which is most noticeable at first, it is the green and red which bring this piece to life. They are complementary colours, so they make each other seem much more vivid than usual. None of the colours used are dark and heavy, so the painting as a whole feels lightweight and completely carefree.
A thin line of black paint has been dripped around the canvas; the continuous line must have been incredibly difficult to pull off, but the effect it has created is fluid and free-flowing. The short series of black dots (which almost resemble eyelashes) along this drip help to guide the eye around the canvas, meaning that the viewer can't help but stand and take every inch of it in. Winque is a highly engaging piece which can be stared at for hours on end!
