Artist's Description

These used to be thought to be puffballs but now are considered slime molds. Colors can range from red to black, and this is the fruiting body. One of those not in the picture has a droplet of orange liquid at the top; I don't know what that is but it may be worth mentioning as an observation. This picture was taken September 27, 2011, in a hardwood forest in Montgomery County, PA.

About Mother Nature

I invite you to visit my blog - Nature's Wonders - which is all about the natural world in my neighborhood. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever...
