MODEL RELEASED. Bar code scanner. Female librarian using a hand-held scanner to read bar codes on a book and library ticket (at bottom centre). The codes are comprised of a series of black, parallel lines. The scanner's head reads the bar codes by sending out red light and monitoring the reflections. The bar code is then converted into digital data and stored on a computer. This computer storage of information makes stock control easier.
