Description
Farrington Field is another place in Fort Worth that I have driven by and taken for granted and never looked closely at for the last 15 years+. There is a fence around it but on the day that I visited the fence was open and there were a few people milling about as if some event were going to happen. So I walked in like I belonged there and started looking around. Since I love the play of light and shadow, the low winter sun shining through the columns under the stands was particularly appealing. It is a very cool stadium and is a living New Deal project! It was designed by Preston M. Geren in the Classical Moderne style. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) jointly funded the $244,000 project. The 18,500-capacity multi-use stadium facility was named in memory of E.S. Farrington, a long time superintendent of the FWISD. Evaline Sellors did the bas relief sculptures of the football player and the track and field athlete on the front. It is used mainly for football and track and field. It serves as the home field for teams from Fort Worth Paschal, Fort Worth Arlington Heights, Fort Worth Southwest, Fort Worth South Hills, Fort Worth North Side, Fort Worth Trimble Tech, and Fort Worth Western Hills.

You and I share a love of the play of light and shadows Joan. The sun creates its own design when it peaks through the columns, adding a wonderful POV to the image.
Joan Carroll replied:
thank you Karen, the shot was done in January with the wonderful winter afternoon shadows. Even farther to the south we get some good winter shadows!
