We hope in a kingdom ruled by a true King.
If we look around us, at the present examples of kings and emperors and presidents and prime ministers and other assorted “leaders” that overpopulate the planet, it is difficult to get a sense of what this true king is like. We are too accustomed to people who take power for pleasure and money, hiding their motivation behind words that sound good, but possess little substance, meaning, or truth.
But Jesus Himself told us that the kings of the world work this way:
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them,” Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 20:25.
“It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,
and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Well. That sounds different.
