I wanted to paint a still life using last fall's Indian Corn. It languished, waiting for inspiration. This antler Corn Maiden carved by a Zuni Artist caught my eye. I placed it in the still life set up. On canvas I enlarged it to give it visual weight. It's placement prevents the eye from flying off the canvas on the 'wings' of the corn husks. The lovely thing about creating still lifes is the freedom to 'let fly' and play with form and color and texture. February 2015.
