Dolomites

This group is dedicated to the famous alpine area of the Dolomites, situated in northeastern Italy. A unique place and quite famous for its rocky peaks, crystal clear lakes, green pastures, wonderful vistas. A must visit place for skiers, climbers, hikers and of course photographers. A place that has inspired painters, photographers and all kind of artists from around the world.

The Dolomites (Italian: Dolomiti [doloˈmiːti]; Ladin: Dolomites; German: Dolomiten [doːloːˈmɪtn̩]; Venetian: Dołomiti [doɰoˈmiti]: Friulian: Dolomites) are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. They form a part of the Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (Italian: Valsugana). The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol, and Trentino.

There are also mountain groups of similar geological structure that spread over the River Piave to the east – Dolomiti d'Oltrepiave; and far away over the Adige River to the west – Dolomiti di Brenta (Western Dolomites). There is also another smaller group called Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) located between the provinces of Trentino, Verona, and Vicenza (see map).

The Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park and many other regional parks are located in the Dolomites. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Dolomites, also known as the 'Pale Mountains', take their name from the carbonate rock dolomite, itself named for 18th-century French mineralogist Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu (1750–1801), who was the first to describe the mineral.

General rules.

First of all I personally as an Administrator have to comply with the rule that I must have only 4 images featured on the first page. Then everybody including myself has to comply with the following:

1. Only 3 uploads per day.
2. Be nice, respectful, and tolerant. Be courteous to each other.
3. No bad mouth, shouting, hate speech, or insults.
4. Do not spam. Anyone who spams the group will be removed without further notice.
5. The group is targeted towards all ages. That means that any art that presents nudity will be removed.
6. Images should be free from dust spots, excessive noise (unless intended), and abnormal colors.
7. The theme and optical message of the art depicted should be clear and concise.
