June 18th, 2017 - Scottsdale, AZ
The Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook Arizona, offers 12 Artist in Residencies per year to artists who have submitted a proposal, samples of their work and are deemed to benefit from the residency and give back to the Park. Debra Jones recently completed her May residency and will be giving something back to the community by speaking at the Scottsdale Artist League on July 11 as their guest for the general meeting.
The program allows artists to live within the park for a month and paint, or prepare or just soak in the people, wildlife and scenery.
The Petrified Forest is part of the Painted Desert and includes breathtaking scenery but is a major scientific hub for disciplines which include geology, paleontology, archaeology, biology and history. Within the 28 miles you travel by car are four distinct areas of visual beauty, including the Badlands, Painted Desert, Petrified Forests and grasslands where visitors may see pronghorn, bobcat, jackrabbit, mule deer and even elk. Inquisitive Ravens will show you the ruins of Puerco Pueblo and dot the beautiful sunsets that only those camping in the wilderness or authorized employees or AIR can see.
The program will cover much of the history of the Park, how the residency works and Debra will show some of the work started and completed because of this amazing opportunity.
