Fabric colouring, 19th century. Illustration of a machine in a wool factory being used to apply a five-colour striped pattern. This machine is part of the mechanization of the textile industry. Artwork from volume 4 (1875) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
