Artist's Description
Knee replacement. Coloured X-ray of a prosthetic knee implant (left) used to repair a patient's knee joint in a knee replacement operation. The lower part of the implant forms the weight-bearing surface in the lower leg. The upper part caps the thigh bone (femur) and articulates with the other part of the implant. This operation is usually carried out to treat a condition such as osteoarthritis.
