Perovskite mineral, molecular model. Perovskite is a mineral form of calcium titanate, with the chemical formula Ca.Ti.O3. The structure shown here is the unit cell, with cations (positive ions) and anions (negative ions). The ions are colour-coded calcium (blue, 2+ cation), titanium (pink, 4+ cation), oxygen (yellow, 2- anion). The pseudocubic crystals crystallize in the orthorhombic system. Physical properties include superconductivity, magneto-resistance, ionic conductivity, and dielectric properties. This makes perovskite of great importance in microelectronics and telecommunications.
