Artist's Description
Coloured X-ray in side view of the left knee of a patient, showing diaphyseal aclasis (green), also known as hereditary multiple osteochondromas. These are benign (non cancerous) tumours that grow out from the ends of long bones such as leg or arm bones during childhood and adolescence. Treatment is only necessary if the growths become painful, malignant or restrict movement. In such cases, they can be surgically removed.
