Artist's Description
Views of the Empire State Building and other skyscrapers from Queens. The Empire State Building, with a total height of 443.2 meters , including 62 meters of antenna - and 102 floors, accessed by 1,860 steps, although it is more convenient to use one of 72 lifts that allow us access to their excellent viewpoints of plants 86 and 102. In 1887 the Astor family bought the land where the building is located and raises the Waldorf Astoria. In 1929 the luxury hotel was demolished , in the midst of the Great Depression , Walter Chrysler (owner of Chrysler Corp.) and John Jakob Raskob (founder of General Motors) are engaged in the race to erect the tallest building in the world. Once the Chrysler Building completed in 1930 , Raskob chose the architect William Lamb, cabinet Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, to surpass his rival, designing a building in the Perpendicular style of Eliel Saarinen , father of Eero Saarinen architect . The excavation began on January 22, 1930 and the Empire State Building open...
