About Rufus Norman
Rufus Norman was born in St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands rooted in the culture, music and brilliant colors of his birthplace. Recognizing his artistic talent as a child, his parents enrolled him in art classes at Pratt Institute shortly after they moved the New York. Throughout his elementary school years, Rufus was asked to create murals for the school’s walls. While a student at New York City’s High School of Music and Art (now named Fiorello H LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts) he was introduced to the work of the art masters. His work was frequently compared to the work of Ingres. However, he was attracted to the work of the popular artists at that time, especially Pollack, DeKooning, Kandinsky and...
