I was lucky enough to return there with him years ago, for a reunion of The 100th Bomb Group at Thorpe Abbotts near the city of Diss. The Boeing Company built over 15,000 of these first-ever, American, all metal four engine bombers. With a 10 man crew and plenty of machine guns for defense against the German Luftwaffe, the B-17 was legendary. Today, only a small number may be found in museums and only several are still capable of flying. This one tours the country and offers a ride to anyone who can pay their share of the gas, and then sign a legal waiver just in case something bad happens.
