Hello Rebecca, You are invited to post this incredible image and one other of your choice in the new group: what's in it for you. This group will feature animal images from Friday November 15 through Thursday November 21.

Rebecca Sherman replied:

Thank you Greta.

This process was beautifully described by James Michener in his novel Chesapeake Bay. How touching of you to have captured this! I treasure it! A beautiful image in form and content. Thanks

Rebecca Sherman replied:

Greta, That is such a lovely comment! Thank you so much. :))

I see this as a metaphor for life. Growing little by little until we leave some of past behind and move. The illumination on the shell makes me think this way. Very interesting description. - v/f

Rebecca Sherman replied:

Thank you for your comment, Bob. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and insight.

Artist's Description

The blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, a native species of the Chesapeake Bay, sheds its exoskeleton in a process called ecdysis, 18 to 23 times over the course of its life.
