About Pol Ledent
Pol Ledent was born in 1952 in Belgium. He came to painting in 1989. He started with watercolor but felt rapidly that oil painting would match his way of being. He is a self-taught painter . Nevertheless he took some drawing lessons in a Belgian academy. After taking part into numerous group exhibitions , some galleries in Belgium proposed to him to exhibit his works. Dinant, Bouillon, Brussels , Paris and Moscow in October 2006. Hi, Pol! I admire so much of your work. I don't think I've told you much; certainly not enough. This might be my favorite. That comparison doesn't matter. What does matter, I think, are all its own relationships to itself -- hows that for political sounding talk! And so, the great depth in the middle, that you have achieved by adding very dark color judiciously and basically creating a cross , a big "+" sign in the middle of the alternating light yellow, blue, and hence, green around it -- lost myself here sleepy-headedly! -- the dimension created among the darker colors in the middle is taken on by the light colors around it, too. These, I don't know what to call the little structures of vertical and horizontal lines that you have so often here and there in so many of your works, kind of become the whole story here, coalescing in the middle in a heavier structure that I find suggestive --but only suggestive-- of numerous things in the ordinary world. So maybe that 's a big part of why this appeals so much to me. That most of your others on your first page very successfully blend abstract parts with some representational imagery, often beautifully because of your really keen eye and ability with colors. I just happen, at least in this time in my old life, to be favoring total non-representative graphics, such as this. It is really nice, Pol! Thank you.
