I painted this portrait from a live model posing for me. She was so graceful that I wanted to catch just the gesture of her leaning on a table, creating an abstract shape for her figure. The original painting is available for sale, and also prints.
About Michelle Philip
I am a classically trained professional artist working in encaustic, oil, and drawing. I teach master oil painting and drawing techniques to students searching for instruction in realistic art. In my own art, I have moved away from realism into a more expressive painterly style. I work mostly in encaustic and oil, focusing on landscape, figures and animals. I am married with three children. I also have two horses, a dog and a cat. If I could have my way I would also have a donkey and a goat. (My husband has wisely put his foot down.) I am originally from Zimbabwe.
