Artist's Description

The African Tulip Tree is also sometimes called Fire Tree, Flame of the Forest and Fountain Tree. African Tulip Trees are famous throughout the tropical world. They are native to West Kenya and Uganda. The major attraction are the large softball-sized bell-shaped orange-red flowers with a yellow border on the petals...huge and spectacular. It is listed as one of Hawaii's most invasive horticultural plants.

About James Temple

James Temple

I have lived in Hawaii for the past 15 years, 1200 feet above sea level, on the small rural island of Moloka'i. It is very quiet here, with only about 7,500 residents, sort of like living in a small town in the middle of the Pacific ocean. I appreciate the quiet life after spending 35 years in the advertising/design/illustration business in Chicago and San Francisco. I have always loved cooking. Eventually that love led me to a degree in the Culinary Arts. Since then I have designed and built a house, worked in restaurants, self-published three cookbooks, and took up photography. Now retired, I spend most of my time developing recipes and photographing them, plus researching and writing about Hawaii's culinary history on my food blog...
