The carefree late summer, early fall after school memories that many of us are lucky enough to have, are expressed in this nostalgic watercolor. Remember those warm September discussions with your sister about the new teacher, the boy that gave you a cookie at recess, guessing what mom was cooking for supper that smelled so good.

With farmers corn field and distant barn in the autumn color background, the focus of this painting is on the two little girls chatting on a tire swing hung by dad from a huge Maple tree in the farmhouse front yard. They are still dressed in school clothes; school books and lunch box are lying on the grass. The school bus has dropped them off at the end of the tree-lined laneway and continued down the country road to unload more precious cargo at neighboring lanes.
